Simona Abdallah is a Palestinian percussionist born in Germany and raised in Denmark for the majority of her adult life. From a the age of 15 Simona excelled in her instrument of choice - the darbouka - despite the fact that it’s considered a masculine instrument in the majority of the Middle East. Now one of the few professional darbouka players worldwide, she strives to create a cultural fusion of Western genres and Middle Eastern rhythms. For this edition of our Solo series Simona went back to basics to deliver a performance of dom tak 101 in spectacular fashion and energy. Check it out.
