Egyptian singer, actress and director Malak has been a driving force in Arabic pop ever since her 2014 electro-pop debut EP, ‘Alters’. Taking on a more conceptual project with 2021’s love-themed album ‘Bedside’, Malak developed her approach to storytelling and introspective lyrical style while exploring a more expansive musical style.
In this XP Conversation, Malak talks about her shift into Arabic songwriting, and how it enables her to explore more of her identity while making a deeper connection to her cultural roots. Malak also talks about her early years in the industry, and recounts some of the difficulties she had faced before the current development of the region's musical infrastructure.
