UK-Based Bahraini DJ & Radio Host NOORIYAH on Arab Identity in Music

Born in Bahrain, raised in Saudi, and now based in the UK, Nooriyah is a DJ, producer, and radio host. While abroad, Nooriyah launched the Middle of Nowhere event brand in London, featuring several leading DJs from the SWANA region. From North African rhythms to Dabke, hip-hop and contemporary Latin music, Nooriyah’s selection is bold and brought together by her unique mixing abilities and curatorial vision.
In December 2022, Nooriyah’s Boiler Room went viral, as she performed alongside her father on oud to open up the set. We sat down with Nooriyah to discuss the challenges in the MENA music scene, and the possibilities that emerged for her when aligning her Arab identity with her music.
