Egyptian house maestro Misty unveils his first solo project of 2024 and highly-anticipated EP ‘El Baile’.
Released under Alan Dixon’s label Love Attack Records, ‘El Baile’ is the first installment of Misty’s forthcoming trilogy release. On this two-track record, Misty veers a little bit off his established style of italo-house, drawing from the old-school house legacy to introduce a more versatile and fresh sound compared to his previous releases.
“I was really looking to make music that’s faster and more dancefloor-ready,” Misty tells SceneNoise. “I wasn’t inspired or enjoying a lot of the new music that was coming out. So, I went on a digging spree to find old records online, which turned out to sound more fresh than most of the music these days.”The record opener and title track, ‘El Baile’, which Misty teased for the first time in his live set at El Gouna’s Sandbox Festival in 2023, is driven by a cosmic acid-licked bassline, sampled from a classic track called ‘Tequilla’. On the track, Misty’s signature uplifting progressions are presented in a different colour that echoes warmer shades of tech-house, seamlessly merging acid groove with a little bit of funk.
On the flip side of the record, ‘Real Feeling’ sees Misty revisiting that nostalgic spirit of 90s raves, drawing inspiration from the 1992 classic album ‘Fantazia’ to form an elegant house piano banger with an added kick that is unmistakably Misty-coded. Slightly clanky with an overbright top-end bite, the track optimizes the mood-changing power of the major key chord sequence amidst a flurry of ecstatic sounds.
Although the EP is slightly different from what we would normally hear from Misty, at its core it is a buoyant dance filler that is still completely Misty.
