Sónar, widely considered one of Europe’s pioneering festivals reflecting the evolution and expansion of electronic dance music and digital culture, has revealed the first wave of the lineup for its 2025 edition, which will take place in Barcelona from June 12th to the 14th.
The festival consists of three separate programs: Sónar by Day, Sónar by Night, and the Sónar+D conference. This year, the flagship Barcelona institution is inviting five talents from the MENA region to perform during the Sónar by Day program, including DJ/producer and pioneer of the Palestinian underground scene Sama’ Abdulhadi, and Cairo-born music producer and sound designer Rami Abadir, aka ABADIR, who is known for his polyglot soundclash that jumps between genres, from experimental club to ambient in a blink of an eye.
The programme also includes Amsterdam-based Syrian selector and Dekmantel regular Fafi Abdel Nour, who will be presenting a hypnotic house set b2b Berlin’s own Jennifer Loveless. The programme will also see the likes of Glasgow-based Algerian DJ Sarra Wild, and Brighton-based Tunisian selector Hamdi (who will be playing in Sónar by Night).
Meanwhile, Saint Abdullah, a New York-based Iranian-Canadian act made up of the two brothers, Mohammad and Mehdi Mehrabani-Yeganeh, will join the bill to present a multi-disciplinary collaborative project with musician and filmmaker Eomac and Rebecca Salvadori, titled ‘A Forbidden Distance’. The show explores the impact of migration on identity and is commissioned by Sónar, Berlin Atonal, Semibreve and Unsound.
These artists will be part of a massive roster of 60 artists, featuring some of the biggest names in club culture and dance music, such as Four Tet, Jayda G, Peggy Gou, Mochakk, plus back-to-back sets from Skrillex & Blawan and Armin van Buuren and Indira Paganotto, just to name a few.
