In the Middle East and elsewhere, sounds such jungle, juke and footwork have been experiencing something of renaissance in underground music, as a new generation of DJs and producers finding their footing in these niches.

While he’s, of course, far from being an up-and-comer, Paris-based Tunisian music-maker, D3M0R is one such fan, as per his new EP, Night Walker.

Released on Paris-based record label, Matiere Production, the three-track piece is nothing short of jungle madness, made all the more mad by his own touches and twists.

Kicking off with the title track, an airy pad offers a plush intro, till the D3M0R offers his own take on the amen break, jungle’s signature drum pattern. The track pulsates with automations that keep everything constantly on the move alongside melodic keys.

‘Wow Funk’, meanwhile, goes harder with percussions that unapologetically boom into your ears. 808’s give the track a fuller body alongside the drums, while arpeggiated keys add the ‘funk’ to the ‘Wow Funk’. ‘R U?’, which was released last week as the first taste of the EP, also plays the role of closer. It almost feeds off the precious track, using similar-sounding pads and percussion pattern, though he lets himself run wild with the 808s.

As the head of Radio Flouka, a platform, that offers artists from across the world space to do their ‘thing’ without limits, D3M0R’s own musical voice is a welcome entry entry for 2022, a reminder of the irrepressible energy of jungle, a collection of three tracks that would do well on any DJ’s setlist.
