In the latest milestone in a year that has seen him make big moves, Egyptian rapper Wegz is set to take to the stage and perform at this year’s All Africa Music Awards in Lagos, Nigeria.
Taking place between November 19th and 21st, the event will see the Alexandria native line--up alongside some of the continent’s most talented on a platform that can only send his stock higher.
2021 has seen Wegz begin to peek over the walls of the genre he has helped spread across Egypt and the Middle East and look beyond its boundaries. From teaming up with Egyptian DJs/producers Disco Misr for the chart-friendly, pop-leaning ‘Keify Keda’, to performing at El Gouna Film Festival and walking its red carpets, 2021 is the year that Wegz is stepping out of his comfort zone and towards… well, that’s still to be seen.
In the All Africa Music Awards, he has a unique platform and audience that few from the Arab world have cared to tap into. The annual awards debuted in 2014 with the aim of recognising and celebrating music of all kinds from across the continent, while also bringing Africa’s fractured music and art scenes closer together. There are a whopping 40 award categories at this year’s edition, which in addition to the huge super-gig and the awards ceremony itself, will also act as a summit of sorts, a meeting place for the content’s musicians and industry figures.
