Berlin-based, Arab-loving label, Habibi Funk, have announced that their upcoming compilation, HABIBI FUNK 018, will showcase the work of legendary Egyptian musician, Hamid El Shaeri - his work between 1983 and 1989, to be exact. The label has already released three of 11 tracks on Bandcamp, ‘Maktoub Aleina’, 'Ayonha' and 'Reet', which comes as the first glimpse of a collection that highlights his early work.Known for his experimental take on funk and disco, the Libyan-Egyptian singer is set to have the music recorded for SLAM! Records re-released, along with never-seen before photos of the star, an interview with the man himself, and an introduction to his work and influences back in the day by writer Yasser Abdel Latif. The full album is to be released on February 25th, with more stories and info set to be released within the upcoming weeks.
Habibi Funk was founded by Jannis Stürtz, who also uses the name as a DJ moniker, and has made a name for himself over the years for his crate-digging exploits. Boasting a very healthy obsession with Arab music of the 50s, 60, 70s and 80, Stürtz continues to reignite interest in the Arab music of yesteryear among young music listeners.
