Triggered by the insane amount of talent emerging through every crack of the Egyptian DJing scene back in 2019, Fresh Meat is the lightbulb idea of 60 SceneNoise monkeys who took a step back from their typewriters to provide a space for young DJs making their way up the ladder - the ‘fresh meat’ of the scene, if you will.
Now, those very same typewriting monkeys are resurrecting what has been one of SceneNoise’s most popular and highest-attended event series, as we bid adieu to the shackles of the pandemic and say hello to the simple joy of being huddled together in a sea of limbs while waiting for ‘the drop’ to flail around without a care in the world.
This time, though, we’ve teamed up with Cairo Jazz Club, where the series will now be held, starting on Monday 13th of December, when local club-cubs, K-Laff, Fady El-Tellawy, Khaled Youssy and Youssef Yasser are set to take to the stage - names that readers will have seen (and heard) on SceneNoise's long-running Select mix series.
The very first edition saw Cartoon Therapy, Mo Guindy, Hussein Marie take to the stage and, over the following parties, the likes of Mohamed Amr, Ramez Naguib, MAVY, Omar Mady, Kas, Mo Ayoub, Solbound, Karim Waguih, Blacksam and Karim Serry were also given the reigns to do as they musically please, while special guests have included Berlin-based American/Japanese DJ, Conor Okami, and Kafr El Dawaur Records’ Yunis and Ibrahim X.
In Cairo Jazz Club, we couldn’t have found a better partner to launch a new season of Fresh Meat with. For over two decades, Cairo Jazz Club has been a giant amongst men on the clubbing scene and have always shared SceneNoise’s sentiment in providing a platform for the kind of young talent many others of CJC’s stature tend to ignore.
August 13th is just the first of many more Fresh Meat feasts to come, adn this time we're not only spotlighting DJs. Stay tuned and get in touch with CJC for reservations.
