There’s a breed of producers in the region who are inspired by classic house and like to keep things jazzy or smoky as one might call it. Their music is often made up of swinged grooves backed by syncopated drum beats and topped off with dusty jazz chords and lush pads. The Alexandrian DJ and producer Adham Zahran belongs to that breed and is best known for his live house sets that carry that jazzy signature sound. He has had consistent EP and album releases over the past few years both on vinyl and digital platforms, supported by the likes of Alex Kid and Laurent Garnier.
On September 25th 2018, Zahran started his show “Relics” on London’s established electronic music radio station bloop that often features guest mixes from prominent names in the scene like Kiasmos, Coyu, Gabriel Ananda to name but a few. He’ll regularly be releasing a monthly mix for them on the last Tuesday of every month, showing off the sophisticated old school taste that sets him apart among other musicians in the game.
The set starts out with an original laid back unreleased track from Zahran, called “Pleasant View,” that carries spacey analogue pads, a heavy deep kick-drum, distorted hi-hats and gentle acid bleeps. The more you delve into the mix the groovier and jazzier it gets, as he plays music from his favorite artists, Soulphiction, Mr. Fries and Paso, that are true to the house sound they make.
Listening condition: obviously, somewhere with a pleasant view, a road trip perhaps.
