Sudanese Singer/Producer Niile Returns to His Mellow Roots on ‘Thin Ice’

Sudanese rapper/singer Niile takes steps away from hip hop on this latest single ‘Thin Ice’, which arrives following his high profile rap collaboration 'Kalam' alongside fellow sudanese wordsmith TooDope, and subsequent afrobeat explorations ‘FKL3B’ and ‘The Words feat. Simplyazza’.

Wasting no time, ‘Thin Ice’ dives straight into a deep disco groove, with a booming synthesizer bassline, shimmering guitar licks, and a concise, swing-soaked dum kit that hits with an undeniable thump. Co-produced by Niile and Amjd Badr,

Despite the song’s  brief runtime of just under three minutes, the track still comes through with a clear emphasis on catchy wordplay and smooth choruses, on which Niile takes on an infectious vocal cadence most immediately comparable to Tom Misch. Overall, it’s good to hear Niile continue his return to a more mellow sound which, despite the viral success of his rap projects, feels like a much more natural state of being for the Sudanese songwriter.
