Nadine El Roubi pays homage to one of the many places she has called home in her lifetime with a fitting video for a track that drips of velvety vocals, charged lyrics and sophisticated piano riffs inspired by American jazz pianists of the twenties and thirties.

‘Egyptian Silver’ first saw the light of day in August 2019 as part of New York-based Sudanese rapper AidyProof’s compilation album, AidyProof Presents, and the video keeps things simple, putting Nadine front-and-centre. Directed by Mark Issa and The Unseen, it takes place largely against a white, photoshoot-style backdrop and a modest, Middle Eastern-tinted seating set-up, as Nadine switches between rapping and singing, most notably proclaiming, “Egyptian silver on my wrist, Egyptian silver line my fist/Egyptian silver in my bones, Cleopatra on her throne.”

Nadine, who has been based in the UK, Egypt, Sudan and, most recently, UAE, has creativity in her bones, both for music and her other passion, filmmaking. Her father was a DJ and she started writing music from a young age. It was only in 2018 that she dived into music headfirst after meeting Sudanese rapper, Aka Keyz, in Birmingham, England, and recorded her first song at his place.
