Saudi-born LA-based indie artist, Tamtam, brings an interesting and incredibly relevant desire to the table with her latest song ‘Strawberries’ – namely, wishing to see the world through a child’s untainted and innocent perspective. This is the fifth release under her Quarantoons playlist on Souncloud, which has seen the artist record and release music during the quarantine.
‘Strawberries’ switches between an endearing voice sample of a kid singing that strawberries are – indeed – the thing that makes the world go round, and Tamatam expressing her desire to see everything so innocently and simply the way kids do. The track triggers all the feels with its undeniable nostalgia and sweet melody throughout, reminiscent of a nursery rhyme, a la American freak-folk duo, Cocorosie.
Tamtam experiments with indie, pop and electronic sounds and explores topics such as identity and women’s issues, perhaps most notably in her 2018 single ‘Drive’, which was released to coincide with the passing of the law allowing Saudi Arabian women to drive.
