NYC-based Egyptian independent rapper/poet, Felukah, stands at the forefront of an alternative Egyptian rap scene, channeling activist and socially conscious themes in a deliberate step away from the hyper-aggression and hypermasculinity that overwhelmingly dominates the work of other regional contemporaries.

Recently, Felukah’s career has been on an upswing, appearing at numerous talks with leading activist  organisations like Musawah, appearing in Habibi Funk’s latest merch campaign, and through two intimate live sets alongside Egyptian indie outfit, Sublunary, and bassist/singer, KILMA.

This latest music video gives visual accompaniment to felukahs track ‘Apocalypse’, a chill, piano-based trap tune that punctuated the first half of her third LP, Dream 23, which released via NYC-based independent label, Abu Recordings.

In the video, we see a neon clad (and impeccably dressed) Felukah - respect to her stylist Giselle Manzano - traversing a variety of locales in her adoptive home of New York City. From dimly lit subway stations and skating down empty streets (courtesy of COVID-19), to kaleidoscopic bedroom blanket fortresses and an opening shot paying homage to the musical internet pseudo-celebrity ‘lo-fi study’ girl, Felukah paints a vivid picture of her influences and environment alongside cinematographer, Joshua Eichenbaum.
