Dubai-based R&B singer and producer, sobhhï, reflects on the hopes that have been ruined by the Corona pandemic and the repetitive, stifling feeling of his new everyday life in his new single and video, ‘quarantine & chill’.
Produced by fedmate and mastered by sobhhï himself, the track feeds into his self-proclaimed style of Trapsoul Nocturnal, combining dreamy R&B, bedroom soul and hip-hop. In the track, he explores feelings of melancholy against a neo-soul inspired melody and a smooth, slow-tempo beat, very much reflecting the slow-paced nature of life at home during the quarantine.
Following suit, the low-contrast, black-and-white video – directed by ‘‘sobhhï’ and filmed at his Dubai home - depicts slow, chill imagery associated with being at home: scenes of his partner overlooking a stunning view in the balcony, working out at home and skateboarding in the garage, all very slow-moving, adhering to the overall aesthetic of the single and video. His relationship with his partner is the focal point of the track, as he touches on different romantic plans they had and the desire to quarantine with her.
The track comes hot off the heels of a recently released EP, Red III, the third and final installment of the singer’s Red EP series. As of now, sobhhï is one of the most streamed artists in the Middle East, with previous tracks such as ‘Pull Up on You’ and ‘Imagine That’ standing as two of his most popular songs.
