We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: there aren’t enough pan-Arab, cross-border collaborations in the region. With so much talent across the board, there are some dream combinations out there that one can only fantasise about.

We need not fantasise right now, though, because one has come to fruition.

Coming hot off another big collaboration alongside Canadian-Iraqi rapper, Narcy, in Big Hass’ ‘Ashat Eedak’, Dubai-based Somali artist, Freek, has looked to Sudan for his latest release, a collaboration with TooDope.Produced by Jango Beats, ‘Sah Wala La’ offers a simple, unfussy trap-based backdrop for the two rappers to showcase why they stand amongst some of the most talented lyricists in their respective scenes, warriors of flow that can switch between Arabic and English seamlessly. Conspicuous in his absence in recent times, TooDope in particular shines in this department and while many artists - especially rappers - get flack for not using their mother tongue religiously, his verse embraces his multilingualism and arguably offers a true representation of TooDope as a contemporary artist.
