Rap of the Week | May 9

In this instalment of our weekly playlist, Rap of the Week, the SceneNoise team handpicks a selection of hip-hop releases from across the region, with the Egyptian scene dominating this edition. The playlist features tracks by Abyusif, Ahmad Santa and Mousv.

Abyusif is back on his game, dropping surprise releases one after another without any promotional material or announcements. The iconic rapper takes fans back to his very early beginnings with his latest track, ‘Persona’. The track, just like its release strategy, recalls Abyu's early production style and rap delivery. Abyusif throws in witty lyrics and delivers a raw performance over the minimal boom-bap beat.

Next up is Ahmad Santa, who celebrates his birthday in the best way possible with the release of ‘Kol Sana Wana Tayeb’ (Happy Birthday to Me). The lyrical virtuoso collaborates once again with Mo3geza, who has been a prominent figure in the rapper's recent releases. The track features a hard-hitting beat crafted by Mo3geza, as Santa delivers his usual combination of wordplay, quirky lyricism, and diverse rhyme schemes.

Rounding out the playlist is Ismaili rapper and rap cult favourite Mousv with his latest release, ‘Mashy 3almaya’. The rapper collaborates with the shaaby-mahraganat legend Sadat. The duo exchange verses over the unusual, dreamy electro-shaabi instrumental courtesy of Mousv's favourite producer, Mohaimen.
