Tunisian producer and DJ Pekodjinn has released his latest album, 'TN TAPE', under Les Disques Magnétiques and Les Disques Bongo Joe. The album follows his 2023 project 'Dharba', and builds on the momentum from his Boiler Room performance in 2022, which highlighted SWANA sounds curated by renowned Saudi DJ Nooriyah. 'TN TAPE' explores Pekodjinn's North African roots while reflecting his experiences growing up in Geneva, blending both cultural landscapes into a singular sonic journey.
At the heart of 'TN TAPE' is a deep connection to Tunisia, with influences from the country’s traditional sounds embedded throughout the album. The lead single, 'Mansit', features Tunisian singer Sabry Mosbah and is a standout track that touches on themes of pride and identity, specifically addressing the experiences of Black Maghrebians in Tunisia. Another key track, 'Tunis N9', focuses on the city’s nightlife and underground car culture, offering a vibrant snapshot of urban life.
The album also features a collaboration with DJ Danifox from Lisbon's Príncipe label, marking an intersection of North African sounds with the rhythmic experimentation of Portuguese batida. Throughout the album, Pekodjinn weaves together darbukas with trap beats, and violin melodies from the 1960s with modern dub effects, creating a dynamic fusion of traditional and contemporary styles
