No one on the Egyptian hip-hop scene is as consistent in their releases as the collective known as ‘El-Mexic’ right now. With Abyusif, Abo El Anwar and Lil Baba anchoring the group as its main members, the gang are back with Desso, who joined them in November, 2020’s ‘Vienna’.
What’s particularly special about ‘Mi Vida’, however, is that it sees Lil Baba step out from the shadows of the studio and into the limelight of the mic - and he does not disappoint in his unexpected transition from producer to rapper.
Of course, Baba is still on production, mixing and mastering duties as well, his work providing the perfect bedding for three minutes of pure bars, only broken up by a small bridge mid-way from Abyusif. With a quintessential trap beat, arpeggiated dark keys on top of a spooky, reverbed vocal pad that sits perfectly with the trap drums and 808s. We would stay tuned with the collective for more releases, but everyone knows they would release again maximum by next week. So stay tuned anyway.
