Ramadan has often been a time of few releases in Egypt, though local rappers, Batistuta and DizzytooSkinnny, have dropped some heat with no-holds-barred message in new single, ‘Ya Rohh’. The ’Zerebewat’ take on a lone-wolf mentality with Batistuta reflecting on his experiences with abandonment and the idea of being independent, self-sufficient and ultimately having your own back.
Getting out of the usual trap-song length, the four minute track kicks off with harp-sounding strings that are heavily reverbed and saturated to accompany the hard-hitting 808s and low-volume hi-hat rolls. It all keeps the emphasis on the lyrics and melody of the beat rather than the bounce with Batistuta’s usual melodic sing-rapping and Dizzy’s signature heavily auto-tuned vocals.
