Word: Cheen & Sintax - 'Mesh 7atigi'

Reflecting on the invisible weight of emotional and mental labor that often goes unchecked, Cairo metal pioneer Cheen of Massive Scar Era vents these frustrations on 'Mesh 7atigi', her latest release alongside Egyptian producer Sintax. The track is an organic blend of Cheen's longstanding metal sensibilities and Sintax's formidable electronic experience, resulting in the abrasive yet modern textures of nu-metal.

On this episode of Word, Cheen talks about the annoyances that quietly accumulate in relationships but rarely get factored in when people sit down to take stock of where they stand. The song gives her the space to address this feeling with cathartic screams that embody the moment you feel like you've given enough and you're done explaining yourself.

The collaboration came together as both artists had long been looking to bridge the gap between metal, rock, and electronic production. When they finally made it happen, it clicked fast. Cheen recalls the organic development of the process, as well as the workflow behind the music video, which was directed, colored, and produced entirely by Bouhdist, who she credits with translating the track's jagged energy into something you can see. "I think the video conveyed the feeling and intensity of the music and the lyrics, and the roughness of the genre as well."
